DUCATI DUO TIED AT THE TOP OF THE R&G ROOKIES’ TROPHY!
After three rounds of frantic action in the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship, Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup riders Levi Day and Joe Collier are tied on points at the top of the R&G Rookies’ Trophy, with Superstock 1000 rider Mason Law in third.
Now in its third season, the 2017 R&G Rookies’ Trophy is bigger than ever before, with the overall winner receiving a prize purse of £500 cash and £500 product support from R&G as well as a set of Pirelli race tyres and a top-of-the-range LS2 crash helmet.
Open to all competitors riding their first full season in their respective class, points are awarded based on the rider’s performance compared to their fellow rookies in the class, irrespective of the overall finishing position.
It was Santander Consumer Finance KTM Junior Cup rider Brian Hart who enjoyed an early series lead, but with the KTM’s not attending Oulton Park it allowed the Ducati Cup stars to make inroads. Having scored points in every race so far this season, and claiming his maiden podium in the class at Oulton Park, Levi Day has climbed up the ranks to be joint top with Joe Collier, who has taken an incredible five wins from six races.
Moving into third place in the standings was Pirelli National Superstock 1000 rider Mason Law, who stunned the paddock with a superb debut victory in very tricky conditions. This amazing ride also saw him named the R&G Rookie of the Meeting by Eurosport commentator James Whitham, meaning he’ll receive a set of Aero Knee Sliders in a special presentation at Knockhill. It was MCE British Superbike star Bradley Ray who claimed the Rookie of the Meeting prize for the first two rounds, impressing everyone with his immediate speed on his debut at Donington before going on to claim a stunning top ten finish at Brands Hatch.
R&G UK Sales Manager Alan Garrett added “We might only be a quarter of the way through the 2017 season, but it’s already shaping up to be a fantastic year of racing. Of course some of the more established stars have been making their mark, but it’s brilliant to see some of these rookie riders making an impression. Mason Law’s win at Oulton Park was incredible and very well deserved, whilst we’ve also been very impressed with Superbike debutant Bradley Ray, who was named our Rookie of the Meeting at both Donington Park and Brands Hatch.”
