2018 R&G Rookies’ Trophy – Round 5 – Knockhill

The R&G-sponsored JG Speedfit Kawasaki team continued their domination of the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship as Leon Haslam took second and first in the two main races at Knockhill. With six wins from the last seven race, Leon holds a commanding 74 point lead in the Championship standings.

Continuing what has already been an impressive season so far for R&G supported riders, Knockhill saw another haul of silverware collected. In the Dickies British Supersport class, Gearlink Kawasaki duo Ben Currie and James Westmoreland claimed second and third in both races whilst in the Hel Performance British Motostar class Asher Durham claimed another podium with third. In the Motostar Standard class, Thomas Strudwick took his first win of the season to move second in the Championship standings. The newly introduced Dickies British Junior Supersport riders had a busy weekend with four races, however Team #109 rider Eunan McGlinchey did not let that faze him as the young rider powered his Kawasaki to pole position before following it up with a victory and further podium.

Rookies Trophy
Nearing the half way point in the R&G Rookies’ Trophy, it has been an action packed opening five rounds as various rookie riders have shone over the different race tracks. Tarran Mackenzie continues to be the rider to beat in the blue-riband Superbike class, having scored 24 more championship points over his nearest rival Gino Rea. It’s a close fought battle in the Motostar Standard class as Fenton Seabright and Scott Ogden sit third and fourth in the overall standings, equal on points whilst in the Dickies Junior British Supersport class, Kade Verway has overtaken Eunan McGlinchey as the top rookie.

The new look formula for this year means that the top two rookies in each Championship at the end of the season will be put forward to a panel of judges, who’ll then pick the top three overall to receive a host of prizes from R&G, Pirelli and LS2 crash helmets. The current two leading rookie riders in each class after Snetterton is as follows;
