2018 R&G Rookies’ Trophy – Round 6 – Brands Hatch
Brands Hatch marked the half way point in the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship and with six rounds already complete, the title contenders across each class are beginning to reveal themselves…with plenty of R&G supported riders in the mix!
In the blue-riband Superbike class, the R&G-protected JG Speedfit Kawasaki team continue their dominance at the top of the standings as Leon Haslam extended his series lead with a double podium. In the Dickies British Supersport class, Ben Currie has closed in on the Championship leader following a victory and sixth place whilst in the Hel Performance British Motostar class Asher Durham enjoyed a double podium in the main class with Thomas Strudwick also grabbing a pair of second places in the Standard class.
After missing the Knockhill round, the Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup riders were back in action in Kent and Rob Guiver was able to extend his series lead, taking pole position and both race wins whilst Levi Day was also able to bounce back from his injury to claim a podium too.
Rookies Trophy
At the half way mark, the battle to be crowned the R&G Rookies’ Trophy Champion is heating up with Brands Hatch seeing a number of impressive rides across the paddock. Tarran Mackenzie cemented his position as top rookie in the Superbike class, challenging for a rostrum finish against some vastly more experienced competitors. Similarly in the Pirelli Superstock 1000 class, Joe Collier is taken the fight to the established contenders, winning two of three races over the weekend.
The new look 2018 R&G Rookies’ Trophy means that the top two rookies in each Championship at the end of the season will be put forward to a panel of judges, who’ll then pick the top three overall to receive a host of prizes from R&G, Pirelli and LS2 crash helmets.
