COLLIER EDGES CLOSER TO R&G ROOKIES’ TROPHY!

Following another dominant double win in the Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup, whereby he secured the 2017 title, Joe Collier has edged closer to securing the R&G Rookies’ Trophy, having extended his lead to 36 points over fellow Ducati rider Levi Day.

With 11 wins from 14 races, Joe Collier has been a dominant force in the battle for the 2017 Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup, eventually securing the title in the opening race at Silverstone – despite there still being three races of the season remaining! His impressive results have helped him to amass a strong lead in the R&G Rookies’ Trophy too, as Joe now leads Levi Day by 36 points, whilst Victor Rodriguez, who races in the Hel Performance Motostar Standard class, is a further 17 points behind in third.

Aimed at rewarding those riders in the MCE British Superbike Championship paddock who are competing in their first full season in their class, the R&G Rookies’ Trophy points are awarded based on the rider’s performance compared to their fellow rookies in the class, irrespective of the overall finishing position. For 2017, the overall winner will receive £500 cash as well as £500 in product support from R&G alongside a set of race tyres from Pirelli and a top-of-the-range LS2 crash helmet.

R&G UK Sales Manager Alan Garrett added, “Silverstone was a fantastic weekend of racing – despite the weather trying its best to disrupt things! Joe Collier has been a revelation in the Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup this season and is a fully deserved Champion. His incredible season has seen him take charge in the R&G Rookies’ Trophy and with just three rounds remaining before the season finishes, he is in a strong position to be crowned our Champion come Brands Hatch in October.”

Each round, Eurosport commentator James Whitham selects one rider to be his Rookie of the Meeting, with the winner receiving a set of R&G Aero Knee Sliders at the following round. Having taken his maiden Dickies British Supersport Championship podium in Sunday’s Feature Race, McAMS Yamaha’s Arthur Sissis was named our rookie for Silverstone.
