FIGHT FOR 2017 R&G ROOKIES’ TROPHY INTENSIFIES!
With just two rounds of the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship remaining, the battle for the 2017 R&G Rookies’ Trophy is heating up as long-time leader Joe Collier has seen his lead slashed after a strong showing at Oulton Park by KTM Cup rider Fenton Seabright.
Having dominated the Ducati TriOptions Cup series all year, Joe Collier has been equally impressive in the R&G Rookies’ Cup, leading for the majority of the season. However with the Ducati Cup not racing at Oulton Park, Fenton Seabright took full advantage of the three KTM Cup races to slash Collier’s lead to just 17 points whilst fellow KTM rider Brian Hart is only a further four points behind. With each respective series only having one round left apiece, (the Ducati Cup finale being this weekend at Assen and the KTM’s two weeks later at Brands Hatch) all three riders know nothing but maximum points will secure them the prize at the end of the year.
This year’s R&G Rookies’ Trophy prize is bigger than ever, with the overall winner walking away with £500 cash and product support from R&G, a set of Pirelli race tyres for 2018 and a top-of-the-range LS2 crash helmet.
Alongside the main Trophy, each round Eurosport commentator James Whitham highlights one rider’s performance over the weekend to be the R&G Rookie of the Meeting. A standout rider all season, Superbike debutant Bradley Ray stunned the paddock at Oulton Park to claim his maiden podium finish seeing him secure the Oulton Park Rookie of the Meeting award.
R&G UK Sales Manager Alan Garrett added, “Fenton Seabright really took advantage of the Ducati Cup not being at Oulton Park last time out, jumping in to second place in the standings and reducing Joe’s lead to 17 points. It will be interesting to see what Joe can do this weekend when he returns to action at Assen!”
