2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship – Round 9 – Silverstone
The final round of the ‘main’ season came to an end at Silverstone last weekend, with the six Bennetts British Superbike Championship Title Fighters now decided the paddock moves north to Oulton Park to begin the Showdown.
It was another dominant weekend for Leon Haslam on his R&G-protected JG Speedfit Kawasaki, taking all three race wins to enter the Showdown with the biggest lead in BSB history. As a distributor of BMC Air Filters, we supply a number of top teams in the paddock so we were pleased to see Jake Dixon and Bradley Ray also secure their positions as Title Fighters.
Lots more R&G success came throughout the support classes, including a third place and win from Ben Currie as he closed down the gap to Dickies British Supersport Championship leader Kennedy to just 31 points. In the new-for-2018 Dickies British Junior Supersport class, Eunan McGlinchey dominated to take pole and both race wins, whilst Rob Guiver also doubled up on race victories in the Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup to secure the 2018 title one round early.
2018 R&G Rookies’ Trophy – Round 9 – Silverstone
With just three rounds of 2018 remaining, the battle for the 2018 R&G Rookies’ Trophy is heating up. The new look formula for this year means that the top two rookies in each Championship at the end of the season will be put forward to a panel of judges, who’ll then pick the top three overall to receive a host of prizes from R&G, Pirelli and LS2 crash helmets.
In the Superbike class, Tarran Mackenzie came of age at Silverstone; challenging for the race win in all three races and claiming his maiden BSB podiums. That stunning performance saw James Whitham name ‘Taz’ our R&G Rookie of the Meeting. Gino Rea also enjoyed his strongest weekend of the season on the OMG Suzuki, moving up to become the second placed rookie in the series.
In the Dickies British Junior Supersport series, Eunan McGlinchey took a dominant double to extend his lead at the of the standings whilst in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 class rookie rider Joe Collier sits in third, just 6.5 points behind the leader.
