COLLIER EXTENDS R&G ROOKIES’ TROPHY LEAD!
Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup’s Joe Collier strengthened his lead at the top of the 2017 R&G Rookies’ Trophy with a win and a third place at Thruxton whilst a double podium sees Levi Day move to second.
Maximising the two rounds without the Santander Consumer Finance KTM Junior Cup riders, Joe Collier has been able to build a healthy lead at the top of the 2017 R&G Rookies’ Trophy as fellow Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup rider Levi Day has moved second. Pirelli National Superstock 1000 competitor Mason Law is now up to third whilst former Trophy leader, Brian Hart, has slipped to fourth. However, with the KTM Cup returning to action this weekend at Cadwell Park, and the Ducati’s not competing, it could all change.
Now in its third year, the R&G Rookies’ Trophy is open to all competitors competing in their first full season in their respective class, with points awarded based on the rider’s performance compared to their fellow rookies in the class, irrespective of the overall finishing position. For 2017, the overall winner will receive £500 cash and £500 product support from R&G as well as a top-of-the-range LS2 crash helmet and a set of race tyres from the official tyre supplier to the MCE British Superbike Championship, Pirelli.
R&G UK Sales Manager Alan Garrett added, “Joe Collier has been a revelation in the 2017 Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup and his fantastic results are reflected in the current R&G Rookies’ Trophy standing – however as we have seen over the past few seasons, the last few rounds of the year are vital as the points calculations begin to take effect so it really is all still to play for!”
After securing his biggest points haul of the season to date, as well as claiming pole position for the second Pirelli National Superstock 1000 race, Eurosport commentator James Whitham named Carl Phillips our R&G Rookie of the Meeting for Thruxton. Each Rookie of the Meeting receives a set of R&G Aero Knee Sliders.
