Bumper season as R&G celebrates most successful season yet!

With the announcement of our top three R&G Rookies’ Trophy winners at Motorcycle Live last weekend, the 2018 racing season has now come to a close…and what a year it’s been as we celebrate our most successful haul of trophies to date!

2018 marked our fourth season as an Official Supplier to the Bennetts British Superbike Championship and thanks to the incredible performance of Leon Haslam and the R&G-protected JG Speedfit Kawasaki squad, we claimed our maiden BSB title! Taking 15 wins over the season and a further six podiums, Leon was an unstoppable force in the premier class this year.

It wasn’t just in the Superbike class where the success came for our R&G riders though, as Josh Owens was crowned the first Dickies British Supersport GP2 Champion, Jake Archer the Hel Performance British Motostar Champion, Eunan McGlinchey the inaugural Dickies British Junior Supersport victor and Rob Guiver the Ducati TriOptions Cup winner. These Champions, alongside the numerous race victors and podium finishers who used R&G products made for our most successful season in the British Superbike paddock ever!

Away from BSB, we’re also proud to support many of the stars of tomorrow and 2018 saw further Champions crowned as Jack Thompson secured the No Limits Superstock 1000 title, Richie Thornton the Golden Era Superbike Champion, Jack Russell and Shaun Parker the NG Road Racing Open Sidecar Champions whilst Dave Mackay was crowned the Sound of Thunder victor for 2018. A further three titles came at the hands of young Casey O’Gorman, who won the LC4, Mini GP 50 and Mini GP 70 classes!

On the International Road Racing scene, Dean Harrison proved a revelation as he claimed podiums at the North West 200, Isle of Man TT (including a memorable victory in the Supersport race) and Ulster Grand Prix. On three wheels, the Brian Gray’s Powerbiking Sidecar Team had a great season, securing 3rd in the British 600 Cup and taking a 4th at the Isle of Man TT with Alan Founds & Jake Lowther.

Outside of the UK, R&G also supports numerous riders and teams around the world. In Italy, the AG Motorsport Italia squad of Noriyuki Haga, his sons Akito and Ryota and Alessandro Arcangeli are all protected by R&G crash protection as they compete in the CIV series. On the endurance front, we also support the Junior Team Le Mans Sud Suzuki squad and the Phase One team.

2018 also saw us revamp the R&G Rookies’ Trophy. Eligible to those riders competing within the BSB paddock who are embarking on their first full season in their chosen class, the top two rookie riders in each championship table at the end of the year were put to a panel of industry experts who chose the overall top three. Third place went the way of Eunan McGlinchey, with Joe Collier finishing second and Tarran Mackenzie being crowned the 2018 rookie of year. Announced in a special presentation on stage at Motorcycle Live, all three riders walked away with a host of prizes from R&G, LS2 crash helmets and Pirelli.
